Little Fantasy
Krizel Zorilla
Digital Collage
2021
My composition was inspired by the movies: Tinkerbell by Disney, and The Secret World of Arrietty by Studio Ghibli. Both movies are set in a world of fantasy, in which the characters are smaller than the objects surrounding them.
For this project, I wanted to revisit my childhood fantasy of being a fairy. I’ve always wanted to experience the world from different perspectives; specifically, I wanted to know how it would be if I were smaller than normal objects. I was specifically inspired by the pieces of jewelry that I added to the composition. I felt that adding these on gave the composition the “magical” and “nostalgic” vibe that I got from the two movies.
Additionally, I wanted to give my composition the “cottagecore” aesthetic, but with my own twist.
As I grew older, I’ve gotten more interested in nature (mushrooms, foliage, forests), and wanted to incorporate them into my project. Therefore, I decided to combine my childhood interests with my current interests.
My concept was to revisit my childhood fantasies by recreating the magical space that I’ve always imagined as a kid.
The fantasy genre has always been a great comfort to me, as it allowed me to delve into my imagination and creativity. Using the element of color, I created a warm and vibrant scene. I used scale to enlarge the objects. I also used values to give depth to the objects. With this composition, I aimed to convey a magical and comforting feeling.
